Organisations encouraged to apply for Australia Day grants

ORGANISATIONS interested in hosting 2014 Australia Day events are reminded they have until Thursday to apply for a Gladstone Regional Council Australia Day Community Events grant.

The council has allocated more than $5000 in the Australia Day 2014 Community Events Grants pool to assist communities to host their own events on January 26.

Grants are available to not-for-profit charity groups and organisations registered and operating within the region.

Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said Council expected to hand out several grants of varying amounts, depending on the quality and number of applications received.

"Applicants must demonstrate how their event complements Council's major Australia Day Family Fun Day at the Gladstone Marina and preference will be given to communities situated outside the region's larger urban centres," Cr Sellers said.

"Applications will be assessed according to the criteria outlined in the application kit, which can be downloaded from Council's website."

Application Kits are available at any Gladstone Regional Council administration centre, Gladstone Regional Libraries, the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, the Agnes Water and Mount Larcom Rural Transaction Centres or here on the council's website.
