GALLERY: New photo competition inspires conservation
IT IS looking like a new photography prize will become an annual event after its organisers received an overwhelming response from the public.
Darling Downs photographers submitted more than 130 images to the inaugural Pittsworth Landcare Wildlife Photography Competition that offered $500 in prize money.
President Alastair Silcock said it aimed to get people out of their homes during the COVID-19 shutdown.
"It was an incentive to go looking for wildlife," he said.
There was an educational aspect that required entrants to identify the species they had photographed.
Mr Silcock said this led to greater awareness of the need for conservation.
"People appreciate things more if they know what they're looking at," he said.
The next competition is yet to be confirmed, but Mr Silcock said it might have a botanical focus.
