New-look website delivers stories locals want

A NEW-LOOK website for The Observer will deliver more local news to your desktop and mobile device.

The redesign of our homepage follows surveys of local residents who asked for more local news, views, sport, entertainment and events.

The changes deliver more local news stories at the top of the page, while also presenting the best of the biggest online stories from around the web in editors' picks.

A new article page delivers bigger pictures and video, more related stories, as well as providing easier opportunities to share stories you like on social media.

With more and more people getting their news on smart phones and tablets, we have given our mobile sites an overhaul, providing a layout from which it is easier to access the latest local news.

A new mobile device menu, at the top left of the screen, allows you to dive into news, local life, things to do, real estate, jobs, classifieds, motoring as well as "just in" news, editors' picks, sport and business.

The changes are still a work in progress, with some Android phone users reporting problems with scrolling, which our technical people are working to resolve in coming days.

Over the next few months, we will continue to make improvements to our sites, responding to your feedback, to ensure we have the best mix of local news, sport, entertainment and events in this region.
