‘NBN is stifling region'

FEDERAL Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd has reiterated his call for solutions to the Gladstone region's communications issues.

A recent news report suggested Mr O'Dowd had come out in support of the National Broadband Network, but Mr O'Dowd yesterday said he had never changed his critical stance on the issue and has been actively pushing for solutions to the community's issues.

"I want to clarify with the community that my stance on this issue has not changed," Mr O'Dowd said. "I believe that the rollout has been handled by the Gillard government in the most expensive and least competitive way possible.

"We in the Coalition are totally committed to ensuring the community has access to the best and most affordable services possible, in the areas that need them the most," Mr O'Dowd said.

He said the government's handling of the NBN rollout was stifling development in the Gladstone region.
