Mulch catches fire after Glen Eden blaze

A LARGE pile of mulch caught fire near Glen Eden Wednesday and sent large plumes of smoke into the air.

The mulch had ignited from a vegetation fire that started on Tuesday just before midday, which burned through the night.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services contained and monitored the fire on Wednesdday and reported no buildings were in danger.

A QFES representative said if the mulch was left it would continue to smolder for most of the day.

The council was called in to use a bulldozer to disperse the mulch, allowing it to burn out and fast-track the process.
