MP calls for staff at Gladstone’s Breast Screen clinic

GLADSTONE MP Liz Cunningham has called on Health Minister Lawrence Springborg to provide more local staff at Gladstone's Breast Screen clinic.

Last June the clinic was opened at Gladstone Base Hospital to replace an existing breast screen mobile van service.

Mrs Cunningham said staff for the centre had always been sourced from Rockhampton.

"When the centre opened it was operating five days a week, then it was reduced to a three-day-a-week service and now we have been advised it is opening one day a fortnight," Mrs Cunningham said.

Mrs Cunningham said she had met with Mr Springborg to speak about the demand for mammograms in Gladstone.

"There is a regular cycle in which women need to get mammograms," Mrs Cunningham said.

"Gladstone's clinic needs to be able to meet those demands."

A spokesperson for Mr Springborg said there would be some issues with recruiting new staff to Queensland's health sector.
