MP asks PM to move on aluminium industry exemption
FLYNN MP Ken O'Dowd is continuing his push to have aluminium smelters exempt from the Renewable Energy Target, a move that would reduce costs for the industry.
Labor agreed to the move several months ago but the government is yet to introduce legislation making the change.
The ABC reports Mr O'Dowd asked Mr Abbott about the issue on Friday night.
"We want to save jobs in Queensland, jobs in Gladstone, and I think it's essential," Mr O'Dowd said.
He said Mr Abbott took the question on board and he expected an answer soon.
Mr O'Dowd also said he was assured the legislation would be backdated once it was introduced.
