Mixed feelings as daughter takes the plunge into Prep
FOUR-YEAR-OLD Morgan Allen is excited about her first day at school on Tuesday.
Asked how she felt in the lead up to the big day, Miss Morgan was thoughtful.
"Um, I'm excited... and I'm really, really excited about the swimming pool," she said, clasping her books enthusiastically.
"Swimming pool?" Her mum, Suz Allen laughed, because Kin Kora State School doesn't have a pool.
"She must be thinking of the swimming carnival," she said, and Morgan nodded.
Mrs Allen and her husband Tim, an interstate truck driver, have been in Gladstone nine years and have two daughters.
The buzz at the Allen residence is nearing fever pitch, because on top of preparation for school, Morgan's fifth birthday is on Friday.
"We've been extremely busy with school shopping for books and lunches," Mrs Allen said.
"There has definitely been plenty of hype about Morgan starting Big School too."
The family is confident Morgan will have a good time in Prep.
"She's a gregarious kid," her mother said. "We know she's going to do really well.
"She has absolutely no trouble making friends and fitting in. Her kindergarten teacher thinks it'll be a breeze, for sure."
Her biggest hope for Morgan's schooling is that she just does the best that she can.
"My biggest fear in this day and age is bullying," Mrs Allen said. "I'm excited for her. But I'm also sad.
"My little girl's starting to grow up. It happens so quickly, seriously."
