More than 600 expected to hip-hop to Illy gig

HE'S an ARIA award winner battling for supremacy in the Australian hip-hop scene and he's heading for Gladstone.

Illy will perform at the Harvey Road Tavern on September 4 as part of his Queensland tour.

Since appearing on the Australian charts in 2009, Melbourne-based rapper Illy has asserted himself as "Australia's answer to Jay-Z".

Real name Al Murray, he last year took home the ARIA award for urban album of the year, ahead of Bliss N' Eso, Seth Sentry and Horrorshow.

Currently on his nationwide Cinematic tour, which kicked off in March, Illy has been on the receiving end of rave reviews and it is anticipated his Gladstone show will be a sellout crowd.

Elaina Berg, entertainment and marketing co-ordinator at ALH, said tickets sales were already going well.

"We've already reached one fifth of ticket sales, and they only went on sale last week," she said.

"We are definitely expecting a sold-out show."

Tickets are limited to 657.
