Monadelphous in $200m court claim against WICET
MONADELPHOUS has launched a $200 million counterclaim against Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal and will take it to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
MMM, of which Monadelphous holds a 50% interest, entered into two contracts to construct a jetty, ship berth and shiploader associated with the Wiggins Island project.
WICET had filed a $130m claim against MMM in the Supreme Court of Queensland, plus damages, interest and costs, seeking to recover monies it had paid to MMM under the state's statutory payments agency.
Monadelphous said it rejects WICET's position as outlined in the claim, and would be vigorously defending the proceedings.
The WICET terminal began receiving coal in March and celebrated its first shipment from the Gladstone terminal in late April.
