New house brings new hobby for hairdresser
A NEW house was the source of a new hobby for this week's Girl Friday, Michaela Ward.
Michaela and her partner of three years have moved into their first home, and she said she was keen to decorate.
"We've been trying to make it look nice so it's turned into a bit of a hobby," she said.
"We've finished renovations and it's like a brand new house.
"Now I really want to make the outside look presentable too with a nice garden."
The Gladstone-born and bred resident has been a hairdresser at The Hair Cutters for the past two years.
Before that she completed her apprenticeship at Stefans.
"I do a lot of colour work and some people just come in here and say, 'change me'," she said.
Some of her major hair transformations include taking a long-haired woman to a short pixie cut, and turning a brunette into a clean, white blonde.
This year the 20-year-old plans to save money for travel.
"My goal is to go overseas once a year," Michaela said. "I'm going to Thailand for my 21st this year and New York next year.
"I enjoy experiencing a different culture and seeing all the views."
