Meteors women seal GHA grand final
HOCKEY: Meteors A1 Women put the finishing touches to a successful season winning the local grand final against Sparks 4-1.
The score does not show it to be a one-sided game with Sparks staying in the game until last minutes of the game.
Meteors started up with veteran striker Sue Rayner slotting in the first goal.
It remained 1-0 at half time and Sparks opened its goal scoring within the first couple of minutes of the second half when Maddy Randazzo got her team on equal score.
Meteors stepped up their attack with Kellie Pagel and a Tahnee Jenkinson daily double goal scoring to take the lead out to 4-1.
The game was played with true grand final tenacity with Meteors captain Jo Homann getting a two minute suspension in the second half for a bad tackle.
Sparks scrambling defence kept any further goals out with Molly Toland and Meghan Jeynes working hard to snuff out any more chances.
Sparks forwards Jolene Smith and mid fielder Jaynae Josefski worked tirelesly to keep their team in the game.
The Central Queensland Hockey League winners Meteors showed their class and finished the game out 4-1 victors.
Meteors coach Wayne Chapman has high praise for the effort of the team's season long effort.
"They are a great bunch of ladies to work with and the whole team got involved and the enthusiasm of the young players was great," Chapman said.
