Meteors get set to soar with 'Come and Try' hockey day
HOCKEY: Not sure if hockey is your thing?
Then get down to Meteors Hockey Club on Sunday as the club is holding its 'Come and Try Sign On' day where you can pick up a stick and have fun chasing a ball around the field with other like-minded people.
The event is being held at the club grounds on Glenlyon Rd, opposite the Botanic Gardens between 10am-3pm.
There will be something for all the family, including a free jumping castle, big slippery slide and sausage sizzle. The club bar will also be open on the day.
Meteors Sports Club president Shane Brodie is encouraging all interested players, no matter their experience, to come down and give the game a try.
"Hockey is a game for young and old, and apart from learning new skills and getting fit, you'll also be joining a family orientated club and making lots of new friends,” he said.
Thanks to a grant from the Gladstone Regional Council Junior Development Fund, Level 2 coach Jordyn Wilson and Level 1 coach Shannon Bobart will also be offering some free and friendly tutoring on the day to help you get started or improve your game.
Brodie said the hockey club was in good shape thanks to council's subsidy and that it was heading into the new season with a fresh committee. "Regional sport has been suffering across the board in numbers. We used the subsidy given by council to develop numbers so we have a strong junior power base,” he said.
Brodie also encouraged parents to consider applying for a Get Started Voucher.
