Meteors clinch decider GHA grand final

HOCKEY: The A1 Men's hockey grand final between Sparks and Meteors did not fail to disappoint spectators and put on a skilful display worthy of its final match of the season.


Central Queensland Hockey League finalists Meteors, were pushed all the way for the full 70 minutes by a determined Sparks side to finish 3-3 at full time.

Meteors squandered it's abundance of goalscoring opportunity and Sparks took full advantage of its several chances to score.

Both sides remained in touch of each with each other with one side scoring and the other countering with a return goal.

The real stars of the game were the two goalkeepers, Meteors Jason Mclay and Sparks Justin Brown who worked tirelessly to keep their respective side's in the match right up to the final penalty shoot-out goal.

It came down to the dreaded and yet exciting penalty shoot out to decide the final out come of the game.

The lead changed over several times during the penalty shoot-outs and it was Meteors Jordyn Wilson who scored the winning goal with a look more of relief than happiness the game was finally over.

The final penalty shoot out score was 3-2 to Meteors.

Meteors coach Shannon Bobart said it was good way to end the season and spoke with praise how Sparks brought their 'A game' to the grand final.

"The boys are happy with a win to finish off the season," Bobart said.

Sparks coach Jason Burns said he couldn't be any prouder of the lads and how they had put in a great effort for the game and the season.
