BREAKING: Megan Hunt makes Brisbane Lions team
BREAKING: Megan Hunt's childhood ambition has materialised because she has made the Brisbane Lions' team and named in the centre for Sunday's round one match against Melbourne at Casey Fields.
The 21-year-old Boyne Island-Tannum Sands junior has been impressive during pre-season and in the trial game against GWS Giants two weeks ago.
EARLIER: Lions coach Craig Starcevich remained coy about the selections which will be confirmed on Thursday afternoon.
But if his comments are anything to go by, Hunt will be lining up in the historic match that will mark the start of the two-month-long competition which culminates with the grand final scheduled for March 25.
Megan Hunt highlights
"Megan's ability to stay composed and read the game has allowed her to step up to the higher tempo quite well," Starcevich said.
Hunt played a solid match in Brisbane Lions' 16-point win against Greater Western Sydney Giants two weeks ago in a trial match.
Starcevich said that Hunt's fitness has reached a level required.
"Getting her running ability up to the level she is capable of has been most pleasing," he said.
Starcevich noted that there were two other aspects in which Hunt has improved in.
"(She has got better in) endurance and clean handling in congestion," he said.
The coach also said his Lions team have the skill-set to beat the Demons.
The match is televised live on Foxtel from 5.05pm on Sunday.
