Meet people and enrich your life: volunteer at arts centre

VOLUNTEERS at Community Arts on Goondoon always feel excited and happy to help showcase local talented artists.

Jeanette Albury has been involved with the centre since it was just an idea in 2010.

She felt it was a project worth following through.

Doing volunteer work at the arts centre has allowed her to meet exciting people who are new to town, and have enriching experiences being shown people's different artistic skills.

Another volunteer, Bob Watson, has been dedicating his time for the past 12 months.

He recently received a commission for a series of paintings to be gifted for Christmas.

Bob regularly recommends that people give local art as a gift.

"Drawings, paintings and prints make excellent Christmas presents," Bob said.

Bob and Jeanette offer encouragement to those considering volunteering.

"If you can volunteer, the rewards are greater than money can buy," Bob said.

Jeanette recommends people 'get out there and give it a go'.

After November 25, members' work will be on display leading into Christmas.

As many people go away for the festive period, volunteers can be hard to find.

Even if your time is limited, it can be invaluable to local organisations.

Community Arts on Goondoon is located at 89a Goondoon St, Gladstone. Entry from the car park behind the Commonwealth Bank, accessed from Roseberry St or Central Lane.

Opening hours are 10am-2pm weekdays and 10am-noon Saturdays.
