Mayor’s Charity Ball to raise funds for three charities

THE upcoming second biennial GLNG Mayor's Charity Ball will not only provide welcome funding for local charitities but bring a bit of glitz to the city.

This year's event is to be hosted at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre marquee at the Marina Plaza on Saturday, May 11.

The inaugural Mayor's Charity Ball in 2011 raised more than $80,000 for Queensland flood victims.

The gala evening will consist of dinner and drinks, music, dancing and fundraising with Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers expecting up to 300 guests to attend.

"Gladstone Region people are renowned for their generosity and support of charities so I'm confident we will draw a strong attendance again for this year's event," Cr Sellers said.

"And I have the pleasure of announcing that the three charities which will benefit from this year's Mayor's Charity Ball are the Men's Shed Association Inc, Zonta Gladstone and Variety."

Each of the three recipient organisations performs vital community services:

  • Men's Shed Association Inc - a community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organisation that is open to all men and which provides a safe, friendly and healing environment where men can work on a range of different projects in the company of other men.
  • Zonta Gladstone - Zonta is a global service organisation of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women through service and advocacy. Zonta Gladstone will present its proceeds directly to the Gladstone Exodus Tutorial Centre.
  • Variety- Variety Queensland works directly with individual families and organisations to transform the lives of sick, disadvantaged and special needs children in Gladstone.

Tickets to the GLNG Mayor's Charity Ball are $150 per person or $1800 for a table of 12 and can be purchased by phoning the Gladstone Entertainment Centre on 4972 2822.
