Masters packed for games on Gold Coast

SOFTBALL: There will be a strong Gladstone representation at the Pan Pacific Masters Games which starts today on the Gold Coast.

Merv Downing and Shane Wallace will both play for the Hooters while six women will suit up in the over-45 and 35 teams in the event which will run for 10 days.

Telfords players Natasha Chequer, Samantha Bowers, Lynn Munster, Christine Heisner, Wendy Scott and Rebecca Cox, of Psyclones, will play for Marist against teams from all over Australia.

"We've been training twice a week over the past couple of months,” Scott said.

Heisner, Munster and Scott are in the under-45s team while Bowers, Cox and Chequer are in the younger side.

"There are 26 diamonds and we will play at least two games a day so it will be full-on the whole time,” Scott added.

The game's duration is more of a condensed format that go for one hour.

Heisner will compete in her seventh Pan Pacific Games while several of the women will make their masters debuts which include Scott.

The Marist under-35s hit off against Ghostettes from midday today in Pool A while the older Marists start their campaign at 2.40pm today against Camira Amigos 3.

Downing's and Wallace's Hooter team take on Boom at 8am today followed games against Nobodys and Western Masters at 11.10am and 12.45pm respectively.
