Margy needs hand before tackling cancer walk
MARGY McArdle is getting ready to walk 60km for women's cancer research.
But first she needs to raise $2000 and that's what this weekend is all about.
She hopes to raise the money at a fundraiser she is hosting this weekend which will offer food, fun and prizes.
The money raised will enable her to participate in the Weekend to End Women's Cancer Walk.
The annual walk raises funds to be donated to the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute and the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital.
"I've had so many friends and friends of family have to go to the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital to have treatments and tests so it is still very close to my heart," Ms McArdle said.
"I think the unknown is the worst part. Not knowing how long they have, whether it will be curable or not curable ... how much suffering they're going to have."
She supports the Gladstone Cancer Council branch by participating in entertainment at events such as Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.
"I can walk, I can support them with walking, that's easy. I have two feet and a heartbeat."
The walk is over two days. Ms McArdle said the event would be a real challenge.
"A friend of mine is a professional trainer who does the really tough challenges and I said 'I can't do those, I'm not fit enough but if there's ever a walk, I would do a walk'," she said.
"Well, there is! I was roped in but I dug the hole so I have to jump in it now."
