Man threatens woman at Caneland Central


POLICE have charged a 24-year-old Mackay man with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, following investigations into the theft of a car at Caneland Central early this morning.

It will be alleged that around 6am a man, carrying what appeared to be a handgun, threatened a 34-year-old local woman in the shopping centre car park, before stealing her car.

It will be further alleged police attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle with the driver refusing to stop.

Tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed forcing the vehicle to come to a halt at Granite Creek around 7.50am.

The male driver fled on foot into bush before being arrested by police.

Investigations by police revealed the firearm was a toy hand gun.

The man is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court tomorrow where he also faces charges of evading police and possession of a dangerous drug.



POLICE have arrested a 24-year-old man who allegedly stole a vehicle from Caneland Central this morning.

A woman reported to police that a man approached her as she was leaving her vehicle with what she thought was a firearm at around 6am, a Mackay Police spokesman said.

Police spotted the 24-year-old man shortly after, heading south past Sarina.

Police pursued the man, and used stingers to flatten the vehicles tyres.

The man was in custody by 8am.
