New management gives Reef Hotel a makeover
THE Gladstone establishment that has had more facelifts than a person on Extreme Makeover will undergo more cosmetic changes after coming under new management because of financial issues.
Despite the unexpected change in management, it will be business as usual at the Reef Hotel, according to Steven Shoobridge who is in charge of the rescue effort on behalf of the landlord Star Hotels.
"We will continue to trade and all creditors will be paid," Mr Shoobridge said.
"There will be some minor upgrades in the hotel and significant renovations to the motel."
Mr Shoobridge said before any works proceeded, management would be talking to customers to find out what they wanted.
He said the takeover had been unplanned and he couldn't make any further comment.
Regular patron Nicole Davis said a Sunday session with bands and drink deals was what people in Gladstone wanted.
"I've spoken to many people about it and they all say they want drinks deals like cheap packs of Coronas," she said.
"Residents in town like The Reef, but they want more live music.
"It'd be good to get rid of the car park out of the front and put a big veranda there instead," the former Reef staffer said.
The Reef Hotel was last renovated in 2012 when the new sports bar was opened.
