Lucy laps up the fun in Tannum Sands Nippers events

SIX-year-old Lucy Allison was lapping it up at the first of the nippers' points events at Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club yesterday.

In just her first year, the youngster was enjoying being the centre of attention in the beginner green-cap category.

"Running is my best exercise," Lucy said between heats. "I like the freedom of the nippers."

And run she did as her team finished second in an exercise where there were five teams of six nippers.

It had competitors racing to fill a bucket with water by squeezing a sponge.

The youngsters were making full use of the increasing waves and tide with most waves taller than them.

Her mum Rebecca was cheering on and said Lucy had made new friends.

Bella Piltz, 5, was also among the youngest of the nippers and after hesitating to enter the water yesterday morning, there was no hesitation now. She was the reason father Andrew moved over from Scotland 14 months ago, and her mother Janine said the club was great for teaching children social responsibility.

The next nippers meet is on Sunday about 9.30am.
