Long locks get chop to raise funds for leukemia cure
A GOOD cause deserves a good shave, according to one fearless Gladstone couple, and to that end, McAleese Transport Gladstone will hold a World's Greatest Shave event on Friday.
From noon a sausage sizzle will be on offer in a bid to raise $2000 towards finding a cure for leukemia.
Manager Darryn Heffler and his partner Naomi Viney will get number one haircuts.
"Darren's mum passed away last year and we've had other friends who've passed from the disease. We just wanted to help out in trying to find a cure for the deadly disease," Miss Viney said.
The pair has raised about $1700 so far and is hoping to collect more cash on the day from the sausage sizzle.
"We've been fundraising since January. Friends, family and workmates have all donated," she said.
It is the first year they have participated in the shave and it's looking to be a big one. Both have long locks and Darren will be saying goodbye to his well-established beard as well.
"We're both getting rid of the lot," Miss Viney said.
Another shave event will also be held at Stockland Gladstone on Friday and Saturday, so you can show support for the local - and soon to be hairless - heroes.
