Lions through to final

BASKETBALL: Kev Broome Stadium will become a lion's den of sorts this Saturday because the division one Lions 2 and division two Lion Cubs play off in the grand finals against Hawks and Copy Cats respectively.

In the division one preliminary final on Monday night, Lions 2 out-lasted a desperate Devilicious to win 44-36.

Aliah Bernabei and Louise Schultz dominated for Lions 2 and the pair shot 36 points between them.

Bernabei scored 17 consecutive points en-route to a game-high 21 points while Schultz was the perfect foil with 15 points.

Kellie Green was best for the Devilicious women with 14 points and Sarah Pickering finished with nine points.

Zoe Calis shot 17 points to guide Lion Cubs to a 55-44 win against Mystics in division two.

Laken Paitai helped herself to 10 points as the Cubs erased a 15-8 quarter-time deficit to be in front 21-19 at the long break.

Cubs extended their lead by eight points during the third term where everyone from the team contributed.

Madeline Dryburgh scored nine of her 15 points in the Mystics first-quarter surge while Kiah Guinea shot 16 points to keep her team in the hunt.

Meanwhile last night's division one and two men's preliminary finals were played last night in which Gladstone Office Choice and Sloths await their grand final opponents.

Tonight's Premier League men's action will see Beliebers take on Red Devils with the winner to play Blue Devils on Saturday night's grand final.
