Landfill tender awarded
A $1.9 MILLION tender for stage two of the Benaraby Landfill has been awarded by the Gladstone Regional Council.
At yesterday's council meeting Mearns Environmental Contracting Pty Ltd was the successful tenderer for the project.
The unprecedented growth of industrial development in the region has meant that stage two of the project will now happen concurrently with stage one.
Combining the two projects will save money, in respect of establishment costs, as well as planning and staging of the project.
Recent weighbridge data revealed that estimated landfill for the 2011/2012 year was 60,000 tonnes, up from 45,000 tonnes the previous year.
Mearns Environmental expects the construction to take three months, subject to weather conditions.
Funding for the Bruce Highway and Benaraby Access Rd intersection ($500,000) and $700,000 from the Landfill Reserve Fund will be used for stage two of the project.
