Curtis Island resident features in Fight for the Reef ad
OVER the years, Cheryl Watson's confidence in the government has gradually faded and industrial development in Gladstone has been a big source of disillusionment for her.
"When I found out the government planned to put industry on Curtis Island, which I did know was a world heritage listed island, I was horrified," she said.
Ms Watson is president of the Gladstone Conservation Council and she features in an advertising campaign funded by the Australian Marine Conservation Society and the WWF-Australia.
Ms Watson, who lives at South End on Curtis Island, believes that industrial development has been fast tracked without proper consideration for the environment.
The grandmother is quick to point out she is not a scientist.
"It is an informed private opinion, all the stuff I have read. I believe we've got an environment which is slowly but surely being eroded."
