Kirkwood ladies kicking AFLW goals for family and fun
AFLW: A bond of togetherness and team spirit has gelled the Kirkwood ladies into a formidable force on the Aussie rules field for Gladstone Mudcrabs.
Hayley, Kaila and Emily Kirkwood all enjoy the challenges the sport brings.
Mum Hayley pulled on the boots last year to see what all the fuss was about the game daughters Emily and Kaila were playing. "It's fun being able to run with the girls and be able to play a sport that's good and rough," she said.
"AFL is a hell of a lot of fun and it does test you out physically and is hard to play.
Emily said she enjoyed the running, kicking and getting together plus the team spirit.
Meanwhile Kaila is excited about playing seniors next year with her mum and older sister.
Despite the limited success of the women's Mudcrabs team, for Hayley it isn't just about winning games, it is the importance of getting together with her children.
"I'd highly recommend that mothers and daughters come down next season to have a go as it's a great thing for your family relationship," she said.
