Kin Kora roundabout funding confirmed in budget
CONTINUED funding for the Kin Kora roundabout upgrade has been confirmed in Tuesday night's federal budget.
The $6.5 million of funding was part of infrastructure spending for 2015-16, most of which had been previously announced.
The infrastructure spending also included $500 million for the Bruce Hwy between Brisbane and Cairns, $12 million for the national highway upgrade program in regional Queensland, and $71.2 million for the Roads to Recovery program.
The RACQ has welcomed the federal government's commitment to 80/20 funding improvements on the Bruce Hwy.
Executive manager public policy Michael Roth said without the 80 per cent contribution from the federal government, the project wouldn't happen.
"The Bruce Highway is Australia's most dangerous, and the $6.7 billion commitment over 10 years will save lives," he said.
"The pledging of $500 million for 2015-16 in last night's budget is a strong kick-start to this rebuilding of the Bruce Highway."
