Kelvin banks a golf win in thrilling A grade result
KELVIN Banks upstaged all to claim a one-hole win in the Gladstone veterans A-grade competition.
Banks carded a 30, one stroke ahead of Ken Peterson and John Dillon.
The first run-down belonged to Les Nicholson (33)ahead of Craig Olive and Paul Morton who both scored 34 off the stick.
Derick Hetherington was top of the B-grade golfers with a score of 28 in front of Claire Hanson, and Wayne Lamb was a further shot behind on 30.
The first run-down saw Bob Mills edging out Geoff Lester. Morton showed touch in the pin shots and he was closest to the hole on the third.
Gary Bryant's shot found his ball to be nearest to the fifth pin, as was Cheryl Thomas on the second hole.
Gladstone Veterans Golf Club secretary Roy Jones said conditions were perfect for competition.
"There was a very good turn out of 37 players for competition in pleasant conditions with just a light breeze,” Jones said.
"Kelvin Banks won for the A-grade while Derick Hetherington won the B-grade section with both having good rounds and good competition from the close runners-up.
"New member Paul Green found himself on the winner's list while another newcomer, Gary Bryant, got the pin shot on the fifth green.”
