Up-and-comer Dane Austin set to delight mums at Quoin

DANE Austin's voice soothes the soul and captivates a whole crowd, and he is bringing this gift to Quoin Island Retreat on Mother's Day.

The Sunshine Coast boy joins Kate Leahy and Jess and Dwight for a Sunday session by the pool next weekend, set to melt the hearts of many mums when he performs his acoustic/folk songs.

"I've got a few original songs and I play covers but change them up; I'm also into rock so I do my own spin on rock songs," he said.

Austin is 22 years old and has experience in various genres of music.

"I've been in heavy bands since I was a teenager but I never really sang. A few years ago I started learning some songs and now I am a full-time musician," he said.

"I've always wanted to be on the stage; I like writing my own music and getting it out there. I write about life experiences, it's usually about someone else but."

His beautiful single My Heart Is Your Home is about a family member and the most meaningful song Austin has written.

He draws inspiration from Matt Corby and Angus and Julia Stone for his music, which is starting to gain momentum in Australia.

Austin said he is currently trying to write some original songs to release an EP in the form of a "mini CD" to make his name known.

But, his ultimate goal is to form a dynamic team that will blow fans away.

"My goal is to form a band with other musical-minded people so we can all collaborate. I've always wanted to play in a big rock band," he said.

Austin has played on Quoin Island before and is looking forward to another gig, even if it means missing Mother's Day.

"It's a six-hour drive from home so I will stay the night," he said.

"I'll have to do something with Mum the day before. We usually go out to lunch or something."

A keen surfer and skater, Austin has learnt the tricks of the trade in the music industry that may have got him into mischief before.

"I've written songs where I have sung about someone and they realised and I got into a bit of trouble. I can hide behind the lyrics now," he said.
