Island worker banned after making kill threats

AN electrician who works on Curtis Island has been fined $500 after he admitted to threatening to smash someone while being held back by his female companion.

Michael Steven Chadwick was also issued with a banning order from a number of Gladstone licensed establishments for six months.

The incident occurred on July 20 outside the Reef Hotel.

Police had observed Chadwick making threats to kill and using obscene language at 12:20am, and he was arrested.

Defence solicitor Megan Creaser said Chadwick, 26, had been out for the first time in six months.

"Staff wouldn't let him upstairs," she said. "He can't remember everything that happened that night."

Magistrate Penelope Hay said Chadwick posed an unacceptable risk to the good order of licensed premises.

During sentencing Magistrate Ms Hay said Chadwick had entered an early plea, and she would not record a conviction.
