Life membership for two surf club stalwarts
TANNUM Sands Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) may be in the off-season, but work behind the scenes never stops.
The club recently honoured two of its long-serving members, Ken Williams and Trevor Craig, conferring on them life membership of the Tannum Sands club as well as a host of other awards for last season.
Williams has been a member since 1989 and has held just about position there is within the club.
Craig has been around even longer, since 1973, and is also stepping into the role as president of Tannum Sands SLSC for the first time.
In fact, the club is welcoming a new committee for the 2014/15 season, and is looking forward to impressing once again on and off the beach.
Besides new faces on the board, action is being ramped up to keep youth members active after they leave the junior ranks, with a new focus to curb the loss a huge number of members.
"The under 14s is the biggest group we had for a number of years," the publicity officer said.
"This year we are working at keeping kids in the youth cadet development program."
