Family home is filled with happy memories

FOR newlyweds Jessica and Cameron Morison, their two-storey home at Tannum Sands is a dream come true.

The couple and five-month-old son Joey have lived in their four-bedroom house for two-and-a-half years, with plenty of fond memories and events occurring since they bought it.

"We had our engagement party and wedding here in the yard," Mrs Morison said.

"We had the ceremony in the verandah area. I wanted to do that 'old school, walk down the staircase' wedding."

The Morisons, who met when they were an apprentice hairdresser and carpenter, always had a goal of buying a home, starting a family and extending the home to accommodate for Jessica's hair salon business.

"I was 16 and he was 20 (when we met)," Mrs Morison said.

"We always wanted to own a house and it was a big deal to buy a house. We didn't want to do the travelling thing. We wanted something different, not a brick veneer cottage."

The home sits in a peaceful court with streets named after Western Queensland towns such as Winton, Cloncurry and the Morisons' street, Longreach.

Mrs Morison said her favourite parts of the home were her bedroom, which was a "parent's retreat"-style area upstairs, and the beautiful staircase in the entrance.

"You can just get away from the world in our bedroom," she said. "The staircase has all been architecturally designed, too."

The new parents, who have lived in Gladstone for four years, are looking forward to making more memories in their home.
