Student rushes home from party to find OP1 result

TANNUM Sands State High School student Josh Liaw was out at a mate's 18th birthday party on Friday before he rushed home at 11.50pm to check on his OP results.

At just after midnight he was logged on and ready to go to see his score for the first time.

"I was expecting an OP1 or 2 but it still came as a big surprise when I saw my OP1 result come up on screen," he said.

"I was really happy because I took on heavily weighted subjects which were a big work load and pretty challenging at times."

He studied maths B and C, physics, biology, chemistry, English and Chinese.

Despite getting the highest result possible, Josh has a few hurdles to jump over yet before starting university.

"I'm hoping to study medicine at James Cook University but first I need to pass the interviews they set for admission," he said.

"I've always wanted to study medicine so I just put my head down and focused on my school work."
