Gym junkie pumped about visit by body building legend
CENTRAL Queensland gets a bad rap for obesity, but a Gladstone gym junkie says the city has taken off in health and fitness.
Australian Sports Nutrition Gladstone part-owner Ben Murphy said he had noticed more people in the gym.
"A lot of young blokes," he said. "When I first started weight training there wasn't so many."
Ben's wife is a body builder and he said he had always been into fitness.
"I've been playing sport since I was five years old, started football, and (weights) training since 17," he said.
"I got to the point of enjoying the weight training more than footy and took up power lifting. I competed at a national level for that."
Ben is excited to bring body building legend Dennis James to Gladstone as part of an ASN tour.
"The majority of the time (these visits) happen down in the Gold Coast or Brisbane," Ben said.
"Just to have someone of that stature, to give information on training, supplementation and diet is pretty big."
