Goondoon St closed on Sunday as council repairs pavers

MOTORISTS are advised a section of Goondoon St will be closed for repairs on Sunday

Gladstone Regional Council Engineering Services portfolio spokesman Rick Hansen said damaged brick pavers forming the road section between the Gladstone City Library and the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre would have to be removed and replaced.

He said the extensive work had been scheduled to occur on a Sunday to minimise the impacts on businesses operating in the area.

The 200m2 raised section of Goondoon St, operating as a traffic calming area, will be closed to traffic from 6am Sunday to 5am Monday.

Work will involve replacing about 10 per cent of the pavers.

Road closed signage will be put into position at either end of the Goondoon St works.

Motorists will be unable to access Goondoon St at the Yarroon St intersection, but local traffic can use the Roseberry St intersection with the provision to perform a U-turn on the approach to the Library Square precinct works.

"These arrangements ensure local traffic access is provided to Sunday traders," Cr Hansen said.

"Other motorists travelling in the general vicinity on Sunday are urged to consider an alternative travel route around Gladstone's city heart as repair work is carried out along the Goondoon Street section.

"The works are necessary to repair general wear and tear and damage to the paved road surface with all efforts made to complete the project with as little disruption to the public as possible."
