Gladstone's super mums of roller derby
CASSTR8ER and Kittie Miaow sound very much like cartoon superheroes that fight crime at night, but in fact they are super mums.
Cassie Williams and Ellie Picking are Gladstone mothers, who on top of doing a great job with their kids also find the time to star in Gladstone's roller derby side, The Hustlers.
The two mums love their roller derby, finding time in their busy schedule to train and play six hours and up a week, with an hour and a half of general training, two hours of free skating and two and a half of scrimming.
Picking loved it so much in fact, that she rushed back into the scrim as soon as she could after having little Sienna.
"I had a C-section and had my first bout six months after," she said.
Picking started back in 2010, while Williams has been skating in bouts for about two years, and even has her kids getting involved in the action.
"I have my older two that help out (with the youngest Zeke, 24 months), they even join in the fitness drills and were doing burpees," Williams said.
The Hustlers have built a very family-orientated atmosphere at both training and bouts, and the super mums have even brought their partners into the sport.
