Gladstone trainer has high hopes in Cup Day tomorrow
HORSE RACING: A 4am start tomorrow will not deter Gladstone trainer Lee Kiernan.
Tomorrow's Gladstone's edition of the Melbourne Cup will feature a five-race card which include's Kiernan's horses French Outlaw and La Celestina.
They will run in race three's Might and Power 1000m Maiden Plate at 11am.
"It's always a big day and a bit of a long day and I got four horses that I got to feed and to get exercised before I head home, have breakfast and a shower and then head back to the track," Kiernan said about how the day would start for him.
As for the chances of French Outlaw and La Celestina, Kiernan said both were in the running, so to speak.
"Both can win, but I'm leaning more toward La Celestina and she's shown form while French Outlaw is probably more of a look-and-see," he said.
Three-year-old filly La Celestina produced a second on Cox Plate Day at the Spring Racing Carnival Maiden Plate (850m) 10 days ago.
"If she wins, then she may take a break and at this stage; French Outlaw may get a start in Thangool in early December," Kiernan said.
Fellow Gladstone trainers Ian Seeds, Denis Schultz and Ben Loakes will also have horses running tomorrow.
Seeds' Salty's Boy will run in race two at 10.30am, Schultz will have Duan Dubai in race three and Loakes has Adayondek in the same race.
