Gladstone sends seven swimmers to national championships

THE GLADSTONE Gladiators have made a splash on the swimming scene.

Club member Carol McLean said the number of swimmers to make finals had been outstanding.

"We have been very successful," she said.

A team of 13 competed in the 2012 McDonald's Queensland Swimming Championships held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre last month.

Swimmers Quentin McBean, Jack Cartwright, Rongo Goodhew and Michael Pacheco came home with a bronze medal as the CQ Freestyle Relay Team in the 14 years and under age group.

Every Gladstone Gladiator swimmer achieved at least one personal best time.

Six of the thirteen swimmers placed in the top 10 in Queensland.

"All swimmers performed well," Ms Mclean said.

"The Gladiators had only two swimmers who had previously qualified for Nationals and now we will have a team of seven after five swimmers qualified at state titles."
