Gladstone ranked 4th in CQ for home theft

GLADSTONE has been ranked the fourth worst town for home theft in central Queensland in a study that was released today.

The Insurer's 2015 Home Security Index revealed that Rockhampton, Rockhampton City and West Rockhampton were home robbery hotspots.

Gladstone was much further down the list with almost a quarter of the theft incidences of those in Rockhampton.

There was .20 theft claims made per 100 policies held by RACQ Insurance policyholders.

Rockhampton's rate was the highest at .74.

RACQ executive manager insurance communications Mike Sopinski said research also showed a relaxed attitude to security.

"Nearly two-thirds of central Queensland residents say they're not worried about leaving their home unattended in case it gets robbed.

"It's also worrying nearly half of householders in Rocky and central Queensland admit to leaving their homes unlocked.

"We remind residents to implement basic home security at all times," Mr Sopinski said.
