Gladstone council finalises changes to planning scheme

GLADSTONE Regional Council will make a number of changes to its draft planning scheme after 186 public submissions were received during community consultation late last year.

The updated scheme will be sent to State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister and Deputy Premier Jackie Trad for approval.

Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said a council decision on Tuesday to make the changes was a significant step towards the adoption of a new planning scheme for the region.

"Since amalgamation, Gladstone Regional Council has operated under the former Gladstone City, Calliope Shire and Miriam Vale Shire councils' planning schemes," Cr Sellers said.

"We now eagerly await the response from the final ministerial review so we can adopt a consistent approach to land use and development management throughout our region."

Cr Sellers said the proposed planning scheme had been revised based on community feedback, and the council would now formally respond to the 186 submitters so they could see how their suggestions may have been incorporated.

She said the timeframe for the council to adopt the final planning scheme was dependent on the State Government approval process, but it was hoped the new scheme could be adopted mid-year.
