Gladstone BMX riders do the town proud
BMX: It was a successful Queensland State Championships for a number of athletes from Harbour City BMX Club who competed in Townsville.
Angela Potter showed her class in the 40-44 Women's Cruiser category and was crowned number one Queensland rider in this division.
Her efforts were replicated by world-class rider Paige Guymer and she was too good in the 13-14 Girls Cruiser.
Harbour City BMX Club registrar Louise Hannan said the Gladstone contingent was superb.
"Twenty-one competitors who represented Harbour City BMX rode with respect, integrity, dedication and enjoyment.
"With some age classes of racing having more than 40 competitors, Harbour City BMX riders mixed it with the best.”
Promising Ben Dunphy also laid it on the line and was rewarded with second place in the 8-10 Boys Cruiser and he backed this up with a seventh in the higher 10-years Boys.
Jacob Brine and Toby Dunphy were second and third in the 13 Boys division while Jack and Darcy Ryan took out seventh and sixth places in the 13-14 Girls Cruiser and 11-12 Girls Cruiser respectively.
Paige Guymer stepped up in an older age bracket to finish fifth in the 14 Girls section. Her younger sister Taniah Guymer was eighth in the 9 Girls and Mackenzie Ryan was fourth in the 11 Girls category.
