Giants hoping crowds flock to watch Swans

AFTER the NRL suffered dismal attendances for its opening round, the AFL is looking to capitalise with a sellout expected for tomorrow's Sydney derby at Spotless Stadium.

For the first time in five derbies between the Giants and Swans, the match will be held at the Giants' home ground in Homebush, which has a capacity of 25,000.

The NRL's scheduling was criticised after just 27,282 attended the marquee season-opening game between premiers the Roosters and South Sydney at ANZ Stadium last Thursday night.

The best crowd the Giants have managed at their home venue was 12,314 for the round 22 match against Richmond last year, but the club is certain that record will go.

"From what I understand from ticket sales it'll certainly be 20,000-plus," AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou (pictured), in Sydney yesterday to promote the game, said.
