Grab some gloves, get ready to help fight rise in canetoads

GLADSTONE Regional Council is inviting residents to help fight the onslaught of canetoads by joining the Toadbusters' season launch on Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8pm at Reg Tanna Park.

Toadbusters, run by Conservation Volunteers with funding and support of Gladstone Regional Council, aims at reducing the numbers of these invasive and environmentally destructive species.

To mark the start of the Toadbusters season, a barbecue get-together and cane toad collecting session will take place at the Duck Ponds, Glenlyon Road.

Volunteers are advised to wear sturdy closed-in shoes and a long-sleeved shirt, as well as bring along a torch and whistle.

Residents can also attend future sessions, scheduled from 6.45pm to 8pm as follows:

  • December 3: Beaumont Park
  • December 10: Hazelbrook Park, Monterey Way, Calliope
  • December 17: Canoe Point Wetlands
  • January 7: Tondoon Botanic Gardens
  • January 14: Beaumont Park
  • January 21: Bunting Park, Calliope
  • February 4: Tondoon Botanic Gardens
  • February 11: Beaumont Park
  • February 18: Reg Tanna Park (final)
