Frenchville FC scoring home ground advantage
SOCCER: It was a game of missed opportunities for Clinton FC with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Frenchville FC in the CQ Premier League Division One competition.
Playing away from home proved to be a hard task for Clinton on Frenchville's home turf on Ryan Park in Rockhampton.
Frenchville came out of the blocks strong and took full advantage of several Clinton lapses in defence to take the lead 2-0 by half time.
Clinton assistant coach Dan Horton said there were chances to score but turning the ball over in defence did not help.
"We had a poor start and didn't take our chances,” Horton said.
"We gifted them two goals in the first half and missed a couple of easy chances ourselves.”
Clinton started the second half a different team, dominating the Frenchville defence.
A header by Clinton captain Chris Hill off a penalty got the team finally on the scoreboard.
Despite being camped in Frenchville's defensive half for most of the second half, Clinton could not convert.
Horton was disappointed with the loss but was confident Clinton would make amends the next time the top of the ladder teams meet.
"I'm confident we can get a win back on them when we play next at home,” Horton said.
