Gladstone Eisteddfod is for performers young and old
SIX years ago Pauline Newman wasn't sure what happened at the Gladstone Eisteddfod.
Now, as the secretary she's one of the driving forces in the committee who make this event happen each year.
The Gladstone Eisteddfod has produced nationally renowned performers.
Ms Newman noted George Bush, who is now performing ballet in Melbourne.
"It's extremely cheap to watch the entertainment and there are people who have come through our eisteddfod who have gone very far.
"Dale Pengelly recently performed in the Boy from Oz production in Brisbane, he was in our Gladstone Eisteddfods," she said.
The committee began to organise the event in October last year.
This year another category has been added to the dance syllabus, called the "mature and motivated" section.
"(This new section is for) older people who have gone back to dance for fitness purposes are going to be competing."
The 45th Gladstone Eisteddfod will start today.
