Army chopper stops to refuel in Gladstone on way to Oakey

IT was no MASH, but the Australian Army made a brief touchdown in Gladstone, showing off one of its newest helicopters.

An MRH 90 from A Squadron, 5th Aviation Regiment landed for a quick refuel at Gladstone Airport on Wednesday, on its way from Townsville to the Army Aviation Training Centre in Oakey, west of Brisbane.

Forty-six of the MRH 90s, dubbed 'Taipans', are being acquired by the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Navy, to be phased into service to replace the current Army Black Hawks.

Upon reaching Oakey, the MRH 90 sighted in Gladstone was headed to Brisbane for a retro-fit upgrade.
