THE competition was anything but clean on Good Friday as competitors paddled, flour bombed and yelled their way to victory at the 2013 NRG Great Raft Race.

As always, there was a great variety of vessels taking part in the race, showcasing innovative designs, flamboyant costumes and, of course, deadly arsenal.

The weather couldn't have been better, with the public turning out in droves to support the 14 crews from local businesses, schools and community groups.

The race was gripping as competitors battled it out in Auckland Creek, making their way around the course.

The Worley Parsons team reigned supreme, making it across the line first.

Organiser Angie Bettridge was delighted with the event.

"Everyone had a great time and it was fantastic to see all the spectators," she said.

"The aim of the race is for everyone to get involved with the Gladstone festival and have fun."
