Family counts blessings after flood despite loss of income
LIVING on a hill, the McClure family property was never in danger when the floods hit in January - but their income was.
Trevor McClure works as a timber cutter in the Boyne Valley and was out of work for weeks.
It's something stay-at-home mum Shannon said she worried about every year when the rains started, because his job was the family's only source of income.
"You just get back on your feet and then it happens again," she said.
Six months on, Mrs McClure said they were lucky compared to many people in town.
"We're safe. There are heaps of people worse off who lost everything."
After living in the Boyne Valley for six years, Mrs McClure said the 2013 floods were the worst she'd seen.
But she was amazed to see how the community pulled together in a crisis.
"I would never want to live anywhere else," she said.
