Flag raising ceremony for NAIDOC week

GLADSTONE Regional Council recognised NAIDOC Week yesterday when they hosted the annual flag raising ceremony . 

Seven councillors attended the event ahead of the meeting to hand down the budget 2015/16, joining indigenous elders and representatives in marking the occasion.

NAIDOC Week is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and an opportunity to recognise the contributions indigenous Australians have made to our nation and society.

Gladstone Region Mayor Gail Sellers provided the official welcome with indigenous elder Richard Johnson and Nhulundu Health community liaison officer Jade Pengelly also addressing the gathering.
